The Happiness Factor

Alt

This week has been an amazing one. In a couple weeks, I hope to share some very exciting news with you about the Behavior Gap, but the last few days got me thinking. I tend to spend a lot of time talking and writing about worse-case scenarios: investors behaving badly, people losing their retirement, and difficult money conversations. However, I think it’s also worth remembering why we’re so focused on our financial security: our desire for a happy life and to provide a good life for our loved ones.

The sketch above is one of my favorites, even though it doesn’t say a word about money. When I get up in the morning, I try to remember what really makes me happy, and it’s great experiences with the people I love. If I use that goal as the baseline for my decision making, it becomes a lot easier to focus on the things I can control and the things that really matter when it comes to investing: working hard, saving a lot, and behaving.

I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend, and thank you so much for asking about my wife. She’s healing great and looking forward to being back at 100%. See you again later this week.

Carl
